Presentation Skills Training – Dealing with Nerves

Dealing with nerves when it comes to presentation skills can be something we all can suffer with.  So here are 5 tips to help you deal with nerves.

1 – Chat to your friend.  Don’t present to a crowd, or a camera, instead imagine you are talking to your friend – the one who brings out the best in you.

2 – Your presentation is your gift – your present.  People love to learn so be excited to share with them your knowledge or idea.

3 – Rehearse – so you get comfortable. And always learn your intro so you get off to a good start.

4 – Find somewhere early in the presentation where you can take a breath.   Asking your audience a question for example.

5 – The power pose.  It works for me every time.  Before you do your presentation stand up, and hold a ‘power pose’ – a pose that makes you feel powerful.

And you may find it will take your brain into a positive space.

Enjoy it!

The Importance of Finding Your own Style

We work as Exec Producers in TV so it’s our jobs to hire and work with presenters.  And what’s so important is that you come having developed your own style - your own way of presenting. This is what everyone wants, but most people play things differently - even the opposite.

The trap people fall into is playing the part of a presenter.  Putting on a generic voice. Playing it safe.  But producers don’t want that.  What we want to know is ‘how are you going to bring my project to life.’ And that’s all down to your personality.

So embrace your points of difference.  Stand out rather than blend in.  That way you’ll go on to have a bigger and longer career.

Hope this helps.

EDINBURGH TV FESTIVAL NOMINATED

Big congrats to our client SALINA ZAHER who is nominated for the Future Presenter Award for the Edinburgh TV Festival brought to you by Screen Scotland. It's a great achievement in such a short amount of time. We are hugely passionate about new talent here at The Presenter Studio - TV thrives on new, but we do very little to develop new talent. There's a lot of support for new talent off screen but not enough industry support for on-screen.

Salina came and trained with us and did the 2 day Fast Track Programme and then the 1 to 1 programme.

We are super proud!

New Talent Found for Channel 4 Series

This is our latest TV project for Channel 4 with BBC Studios - #greathometransformation where I worked as a Talent Executive and cast the two fabulous on-screen experts who are the faces of the show alongside the fabulous Emma Willis and Nick Grimshaw.

Alexandria Dauley is the interior designer - a fabulous Welsh talent and Tim Hitchens is the carpenter.   I found both, pitched them to Channel 4, and they are now fronting their own new series.

We are much more than a presenter agent here.  We are TV Producers who can put our names to new talent and get them on screen.

Finding and developing new talent for TV is what I love to do. And I've got a great track record from casting the #strictlycomedancing judges to working with Rylan to finding new documentary voices for Channel4 - you name it I have done it!

This series is out in the Spring and I can't wait to see how the team got on!

Chris Whitty's TV Commercial

Have you seen the call to action TV commercial the Government have put out to encourage the public to get a booster? What do you think of Chris Whitty's delivery? Does it feel impactful and a successful call to action?

We feel it lacks the impact it deserves. And won't therefore have the impact it desires so here's where we feel he went wrong, and here's some suggestions of how it could be more impactful.

1. Prof Chis Witty is clearly reading a script...if you are using autocue to deliver a message use it as a memory tool and not a reading device. You should try and learn your script as best you can. If you are reading you feel detached from what you are saying.

2. He feels very detached from his message. If you are not connected with what you are saying, your audience won't be either. See a script as something to bring to life, to play with, rather than something that restricts your delivery.

3. There's no emotional connection. Chris Witty's read is very dry. But when you are delivering information ask yourself 'what is the tone of my piece and how can I embrace it'? The tone here is a big call to action. A rallying cry to ask the public to take action.

4. He lacks energy. The camera always dilutes what you do. It doesn't add. So if you are ever speaking on camera, make sure your energy is up.

5. Visually it's very flat and lacks impact. Chris looks tired. Like he has lost the battle. But video is a visual medium, so visually you need to connect. So make sure your body is connected, speak from the heart not the head, and look to physically engage with your message.

Let us know what you think!

SO MANY SUCCESS STORIES

2021 has been a HUGELY successful year four our clients.  Presenters have landed contracts with the BBC, Channel 4, ITV and have been signed up by top agents.

We've also seen our clients land some incredible meetings with TV Channels as we help and advise them on who to contact - new clients are currently in discussions with commissioners about presenting their own shows from documentaries to factual formats.

We've helped complete novices land contracts with all the major channels over the last few months, as our success continues and more and more people come and work with us.

So a big shout out to clients we've got work for, who are in talks about exciting work, and also to those who are also brave enough to wait.  We are here for you.  We will support you.  And we are your family!

Let's keep smashing 2021 together!

Media Training

Media Training:

The media is an exciting place to be, and if thought about in the right way can really help to maximise the potential of your business.

We want you to be excited about your media opportunity, and make sure that you get out of it what you want.

Media training is often sterile, old-fashioned and out-of-date.  Viewers are now wise to people who are ‘media trained’ – instead they want authentic speakers who communicate with personality.

Our media training courses are personality based – we will help you find and develop your own style and voice.

We also help with your messaging, and all the other tricks of the trade we have perfected over our 20 years experience in the media.

So if you want media training that is dynamic, current and gets results get in touch.
