So it’s great news – Dermot is back presenting The X Factor. We’ve been lucky enough to work with Dermot and not only is he a great TV presenter he’s also a really nice guy.
So why did Caroline and Olly not work as presenters of the main show? We think it’s down to their onscreen chemistry. Duos are hard to make work on TV – as a viewer you have to buy into their friendship and want to join in their gang. With Caroline and Olly were they really true friends? Did they really want to be there together? And also why was there a need to have 2 presenters rather than just 1 – did each presenter really know why they were there, and what their role was?
Ant and Dec are the perfect TV duo. Best mates who are really natural with each other – and as a viewer you love nothing more than observing their natural banter and onscreen chemistry. It’s taken them years to perfect their act…
We also think that Caroline and Olly felt a bit young for primetime Saturday night TV. The X Factor is ITV’s biggest show, and so you want ITV’s biggest name to host it. It just didn’t feel like a natural fit for these 2 to be presenting this show at this stage of their TV careers. But good on ITV trying out different faces in primetime.
So Dermot is back! He’ll be as slick as ever. And he will also help a very female skewed show feel mainstream. His blokey natural charm appeals to both men and women which is so important in primetime TV as you want your presenter to have as wide a reach as possible.
As always we need to wait to see who the judges will be. Our money is on Sharon Osbourne coming back. She brings a great sense of fun to the table!
